Before the cancellation, Austria’s Ministry of the Interior, under the direction of Franz Ruf, announced increased security measures at the stadium, where approximately 65,000 people were expected each day, in addition to 15,000 fans eagerly waiting outside the venue.

Alarms were raised when authorities arrested a 19-year-old Austrian citizen suspected of involvement in the plot. A second suspect was later detained. During a press conference, Ruf revealed that one of the suspects had pledged allegiance to ISIS in early July and had shown a particular interest in Taylor Swift's concert.
